What’s it about the working style in Tollywood that you took you by surprise?
I was told that Bengali films were shot pretty fast.
Having shot both in Shillong and Kolkata, I have already given 40 days to shoot this film. That’s something I didn’t expect thought it’s true that I am not regretting anything. It’s my Bengali film debut and paying attention to every detail will only help in improving the project.

Any another Bengali film that you are doing?
There are offers. But at this point, it’s very difficult for me to spare 25 to 30 days to do a film. However, I’m not totally discounting my stint in another Bengali project, provided it’s really exciting.

Any areas that need serious attention in Tollywood?
Time management and proper coordination would help. When I started my career, Mahesh Bhatt had told me that actors need to be handled with kid gloves. Otherwise, they get cranky. Kolkata has the most talented people. The infrastructure has to be improved. I must have got the best vanity van in Kolkata. But, this one is comparable to the ones used by junior artistes in Mumbai. For me, vanity vans don’t make much of a difference. But it’s a fact that if an actor is taken care of, he’ll deliver better.

Are you planning to produce Bengali films or do television work here?
I’m interested in television production. I’ve also had some meetings regarding this. It’s important for me to produce Bengali films since I’m a Bengali. There is a phenomenal amount of talent in Kolkata. Budget constraints are there. Guys need to go out, get exposure and return to Kolkata so that they can harness the talent better.

What’s happening to your directorial debut?
Having already done The Apartment, Alibaug, Mittal Vs Mittal, I am taking a three-month sabbatical from acting to concentrate on the script for my directorial debut. It’s an emotional drama.

Is it a remake of Woody Allen’s Match Point?
No, Kites has already been made. My film is on unrequited love.

What about family time?
We just returned from a three-week vacation in Paris and London. My daughter celebrated her birthday there. Both Mansi and I didn’t take our mobiles along. When out on vacation, we don’t carry our work with us.
