After being away from the small screen for quite some time, Rohit Roy is back in action with the comedy show Peterson Hill. He says, “Comedy of this kind is a kind of challenge. Making a common man look appealing and keeping the finesse of the character intact is not easy. I’m happy with my role, character and story of the show and more than that, I’m happy with the reactions of the audience. The only flip side is that the audience wants more of the station master in every episode but there’s only that much that I can do given the framework of the show.”
The actor says he wanted to return to television with something new. “I didn’t want people to say that Rohit is back. I wanted them to say that he is back with something different. I have more fashion awards than acting awards. I’m a sharp dresser and portraying a chubby stationmaster with a moustache and a paunch was a challenge. I had to loose my walk and gain eight to nine kilos.” Rohit adds, “Ashwini Dhir is a master at what he does. Office-Office changed the bent of comedy shows and set new standards. I didn’t have a reason to say no to him.”
On the film front, Rohit was to direct the film Shaukeen but legal glitches stalled his plans, “I wasted a lot of time with that film. We were about to start the shooting when there were hassles and we had to give up on the project. I announced it two years before it was to go on the floors. Now I won’t make any announcements till I have something concrete,” he says. But he adds, “I want to make a film with my brother as the central character. Ronit is a prolific actor and he definitely deserves an award for supporting actor in 2 States. I was surprisingly shocked with his performance in Ugly as well.”
Interestingly the time slot of Peterson Hill clashes with his brother’s show Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyar. “My brother is the Amitabh Bachchan of Indian television and if I had to compete with someone, I will compete with the best. We were partying at his place on the day the show was launched,” he says.
