Waking up at the crack of dawn – as early as 3.30 am, milking cows, feeding hen, cooking, cleaning the house and cow-sheds… are all household chores that one would associate with a village-woman. But imagine some of TV’s most glam faces do the same?

Well, Monica Bedi, Anmol Singh, Rucha Gujarati, Ishitta Arun, Aushima Sawhney Kashmera Shah, Sambhavna Seth and Roshni Chopra are doing just that. They have ditched the comfort and lifestyles of their city life to live the life of village belles for the upcoming reality show Desi Girls.

While the girls can’t stop complaining about having to wake up so early, there’s one guy who’s clearly having all the fun here – Rohit Roy, the anchor of this show. And it’s not only because he’s surrounded by a bevy of these eight gaon ki goris. Rather it’s more to do with the fact that he’s quite a hit with the villagers, who pamper him with home-cooked delicacies. But it’s not all work only for the girls here, as they still manage to take time out to indulge in some gossiping. When we land on sets, the girls do nothing to hide their chipped nails, smelling of cow-dung or their tanned bods. “Yahan pe aake pata chal raha hai ki what easy lives we lead back in our homes and we still complain,” said Kashmera. “Now we can cook, clean, milk, and even catch murgis,” she adds.

“The real nightmare is living with Sambhavna,” jokes Monica who shares her room with the firebrand. Sambhavna however, takes it in the stride and adds, “At least she’s being honest!” hinting at the cold war already simmering. Though on the surface things seem well between the girls, the strong undercurrents hint that catfights may soon be on their menu.

Cell phones, and the parlour-pampering are the two things they miss the most of city-life. But like Roshni points out, “We get so much love from the families we are staying with here that it makes up for all the hard work. They are strict too, but they dote on us, and so do we!”
